Algona, led by Wyatt Wegener's five touchdown runs, had the answer for Humboldt Friday night (Aug. 30) in every quarter as the Bulldogs went on to a 61-27 victory over the Wildcats in a non-conference season football opener at Algona.

Humboldt fell behind 27-0 late in the first half and got on the board with 6:30 left in the second quarter on a touchdown pass play from quarterback Jacob Thurm to tight end Sam Fischer. Jamison Heinz scored on a 50-yard touchdown run in the third quarter for the Wildcats, which trimmed the Algona lead to 41-13. Thurm hooked up with Heinz for another scoring pass play which made it 41-20. Midway through the fourth quarter Thurm teamed up with Caiden Baker for a 45-yard scoring pass play which cut the Algona lead to 41-27.

Heinz led Humboldt with 153 yards rushing.

Humboldt will return home on Friday, Sept. 6, to host Garner-Hayfield/Ventura in non-conference action.
