Humboldt runners sweep titles in Lynx cross country meet

Led by Bryce Gidel and Quinton Orr, the Humboldt High cross country teams swept the team titles in the Webster City Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Gidel and Orr were both first-place finishers in their races to power Humboldt. Gidel was first in 20:28. Kirstyn Beaman was seventh in 22:37. Allison Hoag ran 17th, Brett Harklau 25th, Shelby Hayden 26th and Grace Smith 32nd for the Wildcat girls, who totaled 63 points for first. Algona was runner-up with 72. St. Edmond ran third with 83. Gidel has won the Lynx Invite individual title three times in her career. The 2018 meet was cancelled due to weather.

Humboldt's boys finished with 45 points to easily outdistance runner-up Webster City, which totaled 82. Fort Dodge was third with 83.

Orr clocked 16:30 to take top honors. Eric Wittrock was second at 17:25 and Devon Coon fourth in 17:55. Trevor Jacobson ran 16th in 18:41. Nolan Jergens finished 22nd, Carter Theesfeld 24th and Jackson Chambers was 62nd.

The Wildcats will run next in the Estherville Invitational on Sept. 10.
