Just like the highly anticipated Iowa/Iowa State football game on Sept. 14, the 2019 version of the Cy-Hawk Rivalry on Sumner, Thursday, Sept. 12, promises something for everyone.
In its fifth year, the Cy-Hawk Rivalry will be two nights before the big game, Thursday, Sept. 12.
For the third time, Humboldt will be a stop for the RVTV crew from WHO, Channel 13.
The WHO RVTV crew will be arriving in Humboldt between 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. “We would like to have a big group of people downtown to welcome them to Humboldt,” Harklau said. “I have talked to Taft Elementary Principal George Bruder, and I think the elementary students from Taft will come to see the RVTV limo,” Harklau said. “They video tape their entrance for airing on one of their news segments.”
After RVTV arrives there will probably be a pep rally at the high school or middle school.
At 4 p.m. there will be an official presentation of the flag and the National Anthem.
“We will be having representatives of the 185th Air Refueling Wing of the Iowa Air National Guard to present the colors. That will be at the intersection of Sumner and Taft. We have a large bucket truck that will be hoisting the flag and we would like a good turnout from the public,” Harklau said.
There will be a myriad of child and adult activities going on from a Kids Play area to an inflatable obstacle course and jousting pit, to special trailers by the Iowa State Historical Society/Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs and the Iowa Corn Growers Association, to bags and arm wrestling tournaments. Mojo Productions will be pumping the up the jams in the late afternoon/early evening, followed by acoustic favorites from the band Salty View. It's all happening Thursday, Sept. 12 in downtown Humboldt. Come be a part of the fun. Read the full lineup in this week's Humboldt Independent.
