NCC All Sports champs for 8th straight year!

For the eighth straight year, Humboldt High School is the North Central Conference All-Sports champion.
Humboldt High activities director Greg Thomas made the announcement last week.
The 2018-19 athletic calendar year, which ended in July, saw Humboldt compile 80 total points. Clear Lake was runner-up at 65.5 points, followed by Algona with 60.5, Webster City at 60, Iowa Falls-Alden with 51.5, Fort Dodge St. Edmond with 43, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows at 42 and Hampton-Dumont-CAL with 32.5.
Humboldt won conference titles in six sports, which includes girls and boys cross country, boys track, girls golf and softball. The Wildcats were also co-champs in volleyball and runners-up in wrestling and baseball.
Thomas said a wide range of factors result in the district scoring so high year in and year out.
“Some huge keys to this success, from my perspective are 1) our entire coaching staff supporting each other’s programs, 2) our athletes being multi-sport athletes and not trying to specialize in one sport, 3) middle school programs with coaches ensuring our young people have a great experience at the middle school level, and 4) support, in every sense of the word – financially, emotionally and attendance-wise from communities dedicated to hard work and excellence,” Thomas said
