County gets impatient with radio tower work

Murphy Tower Company put in steel reinforcement on the communications tower downtown earlier this summer. The company does not want to return to complete additional work. Humboldt County is having difficulty getting work completed on the communications tower between the Humboldt County Law Enforcement Center and Humboldt City Hall.
The county has a $63,727.80 bill from Motorola Solutions Inc. for tower work, associated with the work that was completed this summer. The county also held two other bills of $16,591.32 and $17,089.98. It was believed these sums were maintenance agreement fees, one for 2018-19, and another for 2019-20.
That’s not all. The Commission has a bill from Motorola for $100,000 for payment on money borrowed for the tower and digital communications upgrade that was approved in late 2017/early 2018. The agreement said the county would not have to make a payment for two years. That payment is now due, the first of 10 installments over the next decade.
