Genevieve's is back in business

Phyllis Johnson of Bode was one of many people who couldn't wait to see the newly remodeled and expanded Genevieve's at HCMH. The popular snack bar/gift shop reopened on Sept. 26. Humboldt Independent photo by Kent Thompson.

When the Genevieve Carlson estate donated more than $100,000 in her memory to establish a snack bar inside the hospital lobby, last Thursday was just the kind of day they had in mind.
Bustling with activity inside and out, lots of smiling faces and friendly conversation, it was evident that the supporters of café and gift shop had missed their little coffee nook during the past 17 months.
Door prizes, mystery gift bags and merchandise discounts were part of the day’s excitement.
And people weren’t just there for freebies. Genevieve’s reported taking in $4,000 in sales last Thursday alone.
“We are humbled beyond belief by the proceeds and all the support shown the hospital. It truly is amazing,” HCMH’s Mardi Ratzlaff said of the turnout.
