Wrestling team advances 7 to districts, in regional dual Tuesday in Atlantic

The Humboldt High wrestlers finished second in the team scoring and advanced 7 out of the Class 2A Sectional Tournament held on Saturday, Feb. 8 in Humboldt.

The Wildcats finished with 231.5 points to finish behind first-place Emmetsburg, which totaled 245.5. Webster City placed third at 188.5, followed by Okoboji with 138, Estherville-LC with 126 and Southeast Valley with 122.

Humboldt’s individual champions include Jase Goodell at 113, Cresten Craven at 120, Levi Naeve at 160 and Colten Goodell at 220. Placing second was Cole Nelson at 106, Colby Clarken at 126 and Logan Nilles at 182. All seven advance into the district meet in Algona on Feb. 15.

Taking third was Walt DeLanoit at 195, Fletcher Satern at 152 and Joe Weydert at 145. Fourth-place went to Ty Gargano at 132, Jordan Jensen at 138, Braxden Scott at 170 and Josh Beldin at 285.

It’s top two finish earned the Wildcats a berth in a regional dual team tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 11, in Atlantic, at 6 p.m. Humboldt will face Van Meter and Atlantic will meet Red Oak. The winners will meet afterwards to determine a berth in the state dual team tournament in Des Moines on February 19.
