April 5 Tea another in a long line

There is a long history of Victorian Teas at the Humboldt Museum. There were usually two sittings with the Mill Farm House ballroom and dining room filled with decorated tables. Some years overflow was served at the round kitchen table. There was a bevy of volunteers dressed to suit the occasion serving hot tea. One memorable year they were serving champagne. All sorts of delicious finger food, provided by volunteers from the Humboldt County Historical Association, was laid out on a decorated table and background music got lost in the chatter. China from the museum’s collections graced the tables and for several years Sharon Reedy shared her collection of antique teacups.
There was a different theme each year for the Victorian Teas. On the years when the 50+ Reunion coincided with the Victorian Tea weekend there were attendees from all over the country, including several gentlemen and their wives or partners. At all times, the Tea was an event that brought together friends, relatives and schoolmates. There were other teas at the Humboldt Museum at various times for various occasions. Read about them in this week's Humboldt Independent.
This year's Victorian Team at the museum will be Sunday, April 5, from 1 to 4 p.m. If you want to attend remember that Wednesday, March 18, is the registration and ticket sales deadline. Contact Erica Knudson at 515-332-5280 or email hcmdirector@outlook.com for tickets.
