Fischer, Heinz named 2nd team all-conference

All-conference honors and optimism for the future dominated the Humboldt boys’ basketball banquet held last week (March 10) at the middle school.
Wildcat head coach Jason Thurm and his staff presented awards and recognized their squads for their efforts in the 2019-20 season in which Humboldt posted an overall record of 13-9 and finished fourth in the North Central Conference with an 8-6 record.
Humboldt’s all-conference selections include senior guard Jamison Heinz and junior post player Sam Fischer. Senior guard Jacob Thurm was selected third-team.
Fischer, a muscular 6-foot-4 inside player, averaged 13.1 points and 9.7 rebounds per game for the Wildcats. He played in all 22 games and shot 54.1 percent from the field. He was a 78.5 percent free throw shooter, making 62 of 79 attempts.
The six-foot Heinz used his speed and quickness to his advantage as he averaged 11.5 points and 5.2 assists per game. He collected 14 steals.
Jacob Thurm, Humboldt’s leading 3-point shooter, averaged 12.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Thurm made 65 of 199 3-point shots at 32.7 percent. He was an 85 percent free throw shooter, sinking 34 of 40 shots. He also had a team-high 37 steals.
