One-cent sales tax renewal going to voters

A special election will be held on Sept. 8 where voters in Humboldt County will decide whether to continue an existing one-cent sales tax for another 10 years.
The current one-cent local option sales tax in place is set to expire on June 30, 2021.
At Monday’s meeting of the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors the board voted to approve a resolution to place the matter on the ballot in a special election. Auditor Peggy Rice explained state law does not allow the matter to be put on the November general election ballot.
The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors opted to leave the wording on the resolution for the county portion of the proceeds the same as it has been with 70 percent of the revenues going towards Humboldt County Secondary Roads projects and 30 percent towards Humboldt County community betterment projects approved yearly by the Board of Supervisors.
