Many activities planned for Humboldt 4th

There will be a number of events going on in Humboldt next week, starting with everyone’s favorite, shopping. On Wednesday, July 1, there will be Sidewalk Sales in downtown Humboldt from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There will be many items on display for sale at special prices. Help support the merchants who support your family by shopping locally.
On Thursday, July 2, Humboldt High School Wildcat softball team will be hosting Algona, with JV action starting at 6 p.m. and the varsity game beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The Humboldt Farmer’s Market will be hosting its regular weekly run on Wednesday, July 1 from 4-7 p.m. at Bicknell Park, and again on Saturday, July 4, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park. Come check out fresh grown produce and homemade items from your friends and neighbors.
The Iowa Harness Horse Association welcomes racing back to Humboldt on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4, with fans in the stands. Fans are asked to maintain social distancing in groups while enjoying the races.
Post time will be 12:30 p.m. each afternoon, with a full slate of races each day. Will Roland leads the 2020 Iowa Harness Horse Association driver standings with 10 first place finishes in 20 starts.
The popular Shag the Drag on Summer Avenue, which has kept a lot of people going with something to do on Friday nights during the pandemic, will be having its final event of the season on Friday, July 3 from 7-9 p.m.
In honor of the last downtown run and the Independence Day holiday, organizers are asking for people with classic cars to make the final drive a fun and memorable event.
If it’s testing what’s under the hood that interests you, check out the races at the North Iowa Dragway, 2141 Penn Ave., east of Humboldt. Friday’s event will be the T-N-T Bike Bash with the Waterloo-area band Urban Legend performing at 9:30 p.m. Gates open at noon.
Saturday, July 4 will be a special time indeed, with the Iowa Hog Drags Revisited and the Nostalgia Reunion for Independence Day. See bikes you rode, raced and fixed as a kid performing against top competitors from around the Midwest. The gates on Saturday open at 8 a.m. with racing beginning at 2 p.m.
There will be a 4th of July Parade in Humboldt, which is slated to begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 4.
A group of local volunteers, Cody and Delayna Lawman, Brandy and Bryan Satern, Tina and David Jones and Doug and Gina Vinsand are organizing the parade.
Because of the downtown reconstruction and COVID-19 concerns, for this year only, organizers have decided to run the parade from Taft Street North (beginning at the intersection with 2nd Avenue North) going south through the length of Taft Street South, east on 11th Avenue South and then north on 5th Street South, concluding at Humboldt City Hall. Look for the parade entry form in this week’s Humboldt Reminder. People are asked to provide the name of the entry, business or organization name, contact information and a description of the entry and email it to humboldtiowaparade@gmail.com. July 4th weekend activities will conclude on Saturday, July 4 at 10 p.m. with the grand fireworks display. Fireworks will be shot off at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds.
