The annual Humboldt July 4th fireworks display will go off as planned Saturday, July 4, with only a few alterations.
One major charge is spectators will not be allowed to sit in the grandstand. People will be allowed to drive their vehicles into the fairgrounds and can watch the fireworks from inside or outside their vehicles. Attendees are asked to maintain a six-foot social distance between others watching the display.
Humboldt Fire Department officer and head of the annual pyrotechnic display, Russ Seiler, said the display will be pretty much the same show as other years. Seiler and about 15 volunteers safely light the fireworks from the fairgrounds infield. The show will begin promptly at 10 p.m. and runs for approximately 30 minutes.
“This is our $11,000 show. We cut back some on the ground displays, but look forward to a good array of fireworks,” Seiler said.
The rain date will be Sunday, July 5 at 10 p.m.

NOT ALLOWED at the fairgrounds or within 500 feet of the fairgrounds are consumer fireworks. They are also not allowed anywhere along the parade route (Taft Street from 2nd Avenue North all the way along Taft Street South to 11th Avenue South and then north on 5th Street South. The 4th of July Parade will begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Legally sold consumer fireworks may be discharged in Humboldt on the following dates and times:
Friday, July 3 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Saturday, July 4 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Regarding the parade, a group of local volunteers are organizing this year’s event. Parade lineup will be around Taft Park as in past years. Parade watchers may line up on the right of way along the parade route, but are asked to not block anyone’s driveway and to be courteous to homeowners and tenants along the route. Sidewalks are not allowed to be blocked during the parade.
Goedken said a concern was trying to control the cross intersections along the route. He said the plan is to have police tape affixed at one side of the intersection and brought across when the parade begins to halt east/west traffic. On June 15, the Humboldt City Council officially closed Taft Street, 11th Avenue South and 5th Street South during the time of the parade.
Organizers of the parade are asking every family or group to social distance six-feet apart. People may wear a mask if they so choose. Read more about the 4th of July holiday celebration in Humboldt in this week's Humboldt Independent.
