Van Pelt wins 600th career victory

Humboldt softball coach Doug Van Pelt won his 600th career victory Thursday night as the Wildcats blanked Ames, 7-0.
Ellie Jacobson pitched a 4-hitter with 11 strikeouts. Jori Hajek and Kendal Clark each homered to lead the Wildcats, now 16-1 overall.
Humboldt shuts out Newell-Fonda 4-0
The Humboldt softball team returned to action Tuesday night (July 7) when they hosted Class 1A power Newell-Fonda in a non-conference play and posted a 4-0 shutout victory over the Mustangs. Ellie Jacobson pitched seven innings of two-hit ball with 11 strikeouts. Kendal Clark homered and Jori Hajek singled to lead the Wildcats, now 15-1 overall.
Humboldt visited Southeast Valley on July 10 and pounded 21 hits en route to a 16-8 victory over the Jaguars. Reagan Lee earned the win pitching for the Wildcats as she struck out four and scattered 10 hits. Jori Hajek and Kendal Clark both hit their fourth homer of the season. Clark homered twice. Carlie Thompson was 4-for-6 with a double.
The Wildcats, 17-1 overall, close out their regular season in non-conference play at Estherville on Monday, July 13.
Humboldt will host a Class 3A first round regional tournament game on Wednesday, July 15. The Wildcats will square off with Southeast Valley with the winner advancing into a regional semifinal in Humboldt against Kuemper Catholic of Carroll or Greene County of Jefferson, who meet July 15 in Carroll. The other half of the regional has MOC-Floyd Valley hosting Cherokee Washington and OABCIG facing Bishop Heelan of Sioux City. A regional championship on July 20 will be determined at a later date.
