Fair lineup revised: A message from the Humboldt County Fair

The 2020 Humboldt County Fair will be July 21-27. After careful consideration, the Humboldt County Fair Board has announced there will be no grandstand shows this year, but the 4-H and FFA livestock show and the Queen contest will be held. Humboldt Independent photo.

The Humboldt County Fair this year is being revised due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As mass gatherings are not recommended this year, the Humboldt County Fair Board has elected to cancel all grandstand events. This decision was very difficult for the board.
Due to the age and construction of our old grandstand, we did not feel we would be able to provide the proper social distancing for the public. We do have a new grandstand being designed that would double our capacity, which would allow us to open for safer distancing. Unfortunately, we have not raised enough funds at this point to start construction.
The Fair Board has made many improvements over the past few years. We have a new show ring and completed most of our electrical upgrades this year in conjunction with the campground and new grandstand. We will have a water line project next year, which should complete our infrastructure needed for the new grandstand.
For this year we will have the Queen contest on the portable stage on the east side of the south commons building which will allow for outside social distancing. Spectators may stand or bring a lawn chair. There will also be some portable bleacher seating. There will be no Little Ms. or Mr. or 4-H style show this year.
All livestock and shows will go on as scheduled. Animals not staying for the Monday auction can be released after their show to go home.
All booster packs purchased in advance may be returned for a full refund.
All events at the fair this year will be free. There will be food concessions on the ground and plenty of hand sanitizer stations.
As always, we as the Fair Board appreciate our community backing us. We are rolling all of the events we had slated for this year to the 2021 Humboldt County Fair, which should be one of our greatest years yet.
Thank you for your support and stay safe. The 2020 fair is July 21-27 with the Queen Contest on Wednesday night, July 22.
