Four COVID-19 cases in the county since Monday

The Iowa Department of Public Health and Humboldt County Public Health have reported four new positive cases of COVID-19 in Humboldt County, one Tuesday, July 14, one on Wednesday, July 15 and two on Thursday, July 16. Three of the subjects are in the 18-40 age category and one is in the 41-60 age group.
The positive cases brings Humboldt’s total positive case count to 66. One Humboldt County resident in the 61-80 age range has died from the disease. The number of recovered cases was not immediately available, but is at least 50.
The breakdown of positive cases in the county by age groups is as follows: (0-17) four; (18-40) 30; (41-60) 26; (61-80) five; (81+) one.
The number of Humboldt County residents tested is listed at 1,067. If each of the residents is a unique individual, it would represent one of nine Humboldt County residents. According to statistics compiled by the Iowa Department of Public Health, the average number of individuals being tested per day is 20 or less. Of the individuals being tested, 998 were negative. The county’s 14-day rolling total of cases stands at 15 as of Thursday, July 16. The county has had 2,672 Test Iowa assessments.
Statewide, there have been 782 deaths attributable to the disease. Of those, all but 50 either had a pre-existing condition or their pre-existing condition was unknown. According to state statistics, 47 percent of deaths were in elderly populations over the age of 80. Forty percent of deaths were in older adults, ages 61-80.
Humboldt is part of Region 3, the 20-county area that includes northwest Iowa. Hamilton, Webster, Pocahontas and Palo Alto counties are also in Region 3. Kossuth and Wright counties are in Region 2.
According to the COVID-19 patient summary report, there were 31 patients hospitalized in the region with 11 COVID-19 patients in intensive care units in the region. The number of hospitalized and ICU patients in Region 3 have dropped dramatically from spikes in early May and early June.
The number of COVID-19 hospital admissions in the region varies greatly from day-to-day. Sunday there was one, Monday there was one, Tuesday there were nine, Wednesday there were six and Thursday there were two. According to the statistics, there are 506 total inpatient beds available in the region, 89 in ICU units. The current census rate is about 49 percent of capacity. There are 89 ventilators available in the region with only five patients on ventilators in the region.
