Lynx hold off Wildcats, 21-14

In a battle of Class 3A District 2 unbeaten teams, the Webster City Lynx held off the Humboldt Wildcats, 21-14 in a key battle at Mason Maach Field in Humboldt on Friday night (Sept. 18).

Webster City took a 14-0 first quarter lead but Humboldt came back to make it 14-7 at halftime on Caden Matson's 31-yard touchdown run. Max Mason kicked the extra point. The Lynx scored early in the fourth quarter but Humboldt fought back to make it 21-14 on Matson's 6-yard TD run at 4:37.

The loss dropped Humboldt to 3-1 overall, 1-1 in district play. The Wildcats will return to action on Sept. 25 when they play Ballard Huxley in a district game at Boone. Webster City, 4-0, 2-0 in district play, meets unbeaten Mason City on Sept. 25.
