Laurens teen charged in rural Rolfe stabbing

A Laurens teen has been charged with three counts of willful injury causing bodily injury, all class D felonies, after a stabbing incident in rural Pocahontas County.
According to the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), a 911 call was received by county dispatch on Sunday morning, Sept. 20 at approximately 3:08 a.m., reporting a stabbing that had occurred northeast of Rolfe at 45780 330th Avenue, about two miles west of the Humboldt County line.
The victim, an 18-year-old male from Welcome, MN, had been assaulted at a party and was en route to the Pocahontas County Hospital with stab wounds to his face and body.
He was located by county law enforcement on Iowa Highway 15 at 490th Street, south of Rolfe. Ambulance services were dispatched to the location the victim was transported to the Pocahontas County Hospital and was subsequently transferred by air ambulance to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD for medical treatment.
An investigation was conducted into the incident and a 15-year-old male from Laurens was charged in the assault. The Laurens juvenile was transported to the Youth Emergency Services Center in Cherokee, where he is being held.
The PCSO was assisted by the Pocahontas Police Department, Laurens Police Department, Pocahontas Ambulance Service, Rolfe Ambulance Service and the Pocahontas County Attorney’s Office.
