Wildcats overpower Heelan in playoff opener, 40-17

Humboldt quarterback Caden Matson rushed for three touchdowns and passed for two more to lead the Wildcat football team past the Sioux City Heelan Crusaders, 40-17 in a Class 3A first round playoff game Friday night (Oct. 16) in Humboldt.

Matson scored on rushing plays covering 23 yards, 47 yards and five yards. He also passed 20 yards to Nolan Lammers and one-yard to Gabe Gidel for scores to power the Wildcats, who improved to 5-3 overall on the season. Heelan bows out at 1-7.

The Wildcats will advance into the next round, where they travel to Spencer on Oct. 23 to face the Spencer Tigers, who drew a first round bye.
