Wildcats end year 33-4

Humboldt, which earned its first ever trip to the state volleyball tournament this past season and was one of the top two dominant teams in the North Central Conference, had its starting lineup earn post-season honors by the league coaches.
Senior outside hitter Jori Hajek was one of five players who earned unanimous first-team selection. Humboldt’s other first-team honorees include senior outside hitter Kendal Clark and senior setter Deni McDaniel.
Wildcat players on the second-team include senior rightside hitter Jayda Hoefer and senior middle hitter Emily Zaugg. Senior middle hitter Lily Groat was a third-team pick for Humboldt, which finished the year at 33-4 overall and 6-1 and runner-up in the NCC.
League champion Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, which went 6-0 in league play and won their first round state tournament match, only to fall in the semifinal round, also had six players receive all-conference honors, including three unanimous first-team picks.
Humboldt set three team records this past season. The Wildcats’ 33 victories were a new high, along with its 1,063 kills at the net. The 1,736 digs Humboldt made was the other school record.
Academic honors were also awarded. Seniors Kaylee Shaner, Kailee Dettmann, Hoefer, Zaugg and Groat made the academic all-state team.
Humboldt was led by coach Justin McDaniel, who has led the program for a little over six seasons. McDaniel has now compiled a career won-loss record of 183-33 overall, 38-5 in the North Central Conference.
