Wildcats place 10 on 3A-2 All-District team
Caden Matson Offensive Player of the Year
Led by the Offensive Player of the Year in quarterback Caden Matson, the Humboldt football team is represented by 10 players on the coaches’ Class 3A-2 all-district team.
Matson, a six-foot 180-pound junior, helped the Wildcats finish the year 5-4 overall, 2-3 and fourth in district two. The 2020 season was the school’s first winning season in six years.
Other all-district selections for the Wildcats include senior back Gabe Gidel, senior linebacker Jake Lenning, junior linebacker Tanner McKimmey and junior offensive lineman Ben Kuehnast.
Honorable mention selections for the Wildcats include senior wide receiver Nyzier Evans, junior wide receiver Jacob Heier, junior defensive back Carson Berte and junior offensive guard Tracen Troyer.
Matson, one of the state’s leaders on offense, rushed for 1,068 yards on 172 carries for a 6.2 yards per carry average. He also scored 18 touchdowns. Matson completed 102 of 172 passes for 1,515 yards and 14 touchdowns with 10 interceptions.
In the defensive secondary, Matson finished with 67 tackles, which includes 46 solos. He also recovered three fumbles, intercepted four passes and returned five kickoffs for 121 yards. He returned three punts for 37 yards.
