Humboldt County Agricultural Society President Jeff Haselhuhn looks forward to a return to a more normal Humboldt County Fair in 2021.
The Agricultural Society also known as the Fair Board, was forced to scale back the 2020 Humboldt County Fair due to the pandemic. The Board elected to have a 4-H and FFA exhibit fair only and have rolled entertainment and attraction contracts from 2020 to the upcoming fair, July 20-26.
“We felt it was very important to offer our youth an opportunity to show off their projects. That’s part of our mission statement and we were very successful in being able to do that,” Haselhuhn told the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors at their meeting on Monday. Not all fairs in the state were able to host 4-H and FFA exhibitor events last year.
“In doing that, and not having any grandstand events, we actually lost quite a bit of money, because everything we did was an expense with no revenue coming in to help support it. It was very challenging financially, but we’ve overcome that and are moving forward with what we hope and expect will be a great fair this year,” Haselhuhn said.
