COVID-19 vaccines for adults 75 and older Wednesday at Humboldt County Events Center; appointments required

From Michelle Sleiter, HCMH CEO and Joleen Sernett, Humboldt County Public Health director
Today (Monday, Feb. 1,) Public Health departments are allowed to move into Phase 1b in the vaccination plan. This is great news, but continues to bring challenges due to the vaccine shortage occurring. Each county is allowed doses based on their population and usage. We are actively working to get as many vaccines in the arms of Humboldt County residents as quickly as possible.
We did receive 100 doses on Friday and will be receiving an additional 100 this week to begin Phase 1b. We have spent significant time over the last few days determining our best plan with the limited number of doses. With that being said, here is our plan:
We will be injecting 200 doses to Humboldt County residents 75 and older on Wednesday, February 3 from 12-2:30 p.m. at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds Events Center. An appointment is required.
If you are age 75 or older, a resident of Humboldt County and not actively sick or quarantined, please call (515) 332-7668 starting Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 1 p.m., to reserve your dose. We will be taking calls until all appointments are filled. This is on a first come first serve basis.
By working through vaccines quickly, we are hopeful our supply will increase, and more residents will have the opportunity to be vaccinated. To ensure everyone has an opportunity to be first in line, please call your family and friends that meet these requirements to make certain they see this message.
Thank you for being patient and understanding as we work through this next step. We want nothing more than to have EVERYONE in our County have access to a vaccine, but until our supply increases, we have to manage it the best we can.
Next Steps:
If you are 75 and older, live in Humboldt County, are not actively sick or quarantined-- call 515-332-7668 on Tuesday, Feb. 2, beginning at 1p.m.
If you are able to get an appointment, your vaccine will be reserved for you and you can arrive at the fairgrounds Events Center on Wednesday, Feb. 3, anytime between 12-2:30 p.m., for your vaccine.
If you arrive at the Fairgrounds without an appointment, you will be turned away.
