Even if he wasn’t in peak training mode, Humboldt’s Quinton Orr couldn’t pass up an invitation to race in the Nike Outdoor Nationals track meet in Eugene, OR, last Saturday, July 3.
Orr, who recently graduated from Humboldt High School and will attend Iowa State University in the fall, where he will run cross country and track, finished 34th in the two-mile run in 10:21.19.
The race was held on Hayward Field, site of the recent U.S. Olympic trials.

Josh Truchon of West Allis, WI, was the winner in 8:54.14. Orr, who last competed in the state meet in Iowa in mid-May, was competing against some athletes who had just run in their respective state meets in late June.

“I feel good about my race. It is the best of the best at this meet and it was super cool to be a part of the field,” Orr said.
“The way my training was set up, I took my two week break from running after state track. I didn’t really think I’d run any other meets so I just took my break and then three days after my break was over I qualified for this race and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity,” Orr said.
