Humboldt alumnus to perform benefit concert

Gary "Garik" Pedersen is a 1971 graduate of Humboldt High School. He has a doctorate in piano performance, has taught music for 40-plus years, and has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the U.S. and several foreign lands, receiving high acclaim from several distinguished associations and conservatories. Pedersen retired from active teaching of piano this past year after a 31-year career at Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti, MI.
Through all his travels and experiences, the Humboldt native found out something 13 years ago that truly fascinated him.
“I was invited in 2008 to be a Steinway Visiting Artist in New York City. I had a meeting with Henry Steinway, who was the last surviving member of the famous Steinway & Sons piano manufacturers. Something that Steinway told him that day has turned into a consuming passion for Garik and it will be what his lecture/recital on Sunday is all about. The public is invited to the concert Sunday, Aug. 1, in the R. Wesley Carlson Auditorium at Humboldt High School, beginning at 1 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend. Admission is a freewill donation with all proceeds going to the Humboldt Music Boosters.
