Kara Waldorf begins her first year as Humboldt head volleyball coach with high expectations.
While graduation losses from last year’s conference championship and state tournament team were heavy, Waldorf and her squad remain undeterred as they embark on a new season.
“I’m impressed with the girls. I feel like they came into pre-season practice and showed a lot. We had a coach come in from Des Moines to run the camp and these girls really brought it to that camp and it was fun for him to be able to work with them and for me to be able to observe,” Waldorf said. “I was able to gauge where their skill level is and their level of competition at this point.”
“The first week of practice has been a ton of fun. The kids came into pre-season working hard and have raised the bar. They work really hard every day,” Waldorf said. “We’ve focused a lot on conditioning and skills. The intensity level has been there during pre-season, which was pleasing to see since we don’t return a lot varsity players with starting experience.”
