Humboldt goes 5-1, 2nd in own tournament

The Humboldt volleyball team went 5-1 in match play and finished second in their own tournament on Saturday, Aug. 28, inside the Wildcat gym.

Humboldt, now 5-2 overall on the season, defeated Grand View Christian (2-1), South Central Calhoun (2-1), Fort Dodge (2-1), Carroll Kuemper (2-1) and Spirit Lake (2-1). The Wildcats lost to tournament champion South Hardin, 2-0. South Hardin went 6-0 on the day to finish on top. Kuemper was 4-2, followed by SCC and Spirit Lake both at 2-4, Fort Dodge at 1-5 and GVC at 1-5.

WILDCATS FALL IN 5 SETS IN SEASON OPENER
The Humboldt volleyball opened their season Thursday night (Aug. 26), by falling to No. 11 ranked Bondurant-Farrar in 5 sets in a non-conference match in the Wildcat gym. The visiting Blue Jays won by scores 23-25, 23-25, 25-15, 25-16 and 15-9.

Addison Thompson made 10 kills to lead Humboldt. Marissa Kaufman and Tayla Wempen each had six. Rylie Satern led in assists with 17 while Jennika Beach had 21 digs.

The Wildcats will host Manson-Northwest Webster and Storm Lake on Tuesday, Aug. 31.
