No. 4 Humboldt blanks Ballard in district opener, 40-0

Humboldt quarterback Caden Matson rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another score to lead the fourth ranked Wildcat football team to a 40-0 victory over Ballard Huxley Friday night (Sept. 25) at Mason Maach Field in Humboldt.

The victory improved the Wildcats' record to 5-0 overall, 1-0 in Class 3A District 2.

Matson connected with Will Orness on a 29-yard scoring pass at 8:24 in the first quarter. Matson later scored on a one-yard run early in the second quarter. Matson added another one-yard TD run with 48 seconds left in the first half.

Tanner McKimmey scored on a 6-yard run early in the third quarter and Nolan Lammers scored on a fumbled punt late in the third quarter to give the Wildcats a 33-0 lead.

Sam Numedahl scored on a 2-yard run with 1:41 left in the final quarter to cap the Wildcat scoring.

Humboldt will resume district play at North Polk on Friday, Oct. 1.

Humboldt will visit Gilbert on Oct. 8 and then host Nevada (Oct. 15) and Algona (Oct. 22) to close out their regular season.
