Wildcat football team dominates Bulldogs in 3A opener, 47-6

The Humboldt football team pushed their record to 10-0 overall with a dominating, 47-6 victory over Hampton-Dumont-CAL Friday night (Oct. 29) at Mason Maach Field in Humboldt in a Class 3A opening round playoff game.

The victory moved Humboldt into a quarterfinal round game against Independence on Friday, Nov. 5. Independence opened with a 26-6 victory over Benton Community of Van Horne. Independence will travel to Humboldt for the quarterfinal round game, which begins at 7 p.m.

Humboldt senior quarterback Caden Matson threw three touchdown passes and ran for another to power the Wildcats, who are now the only team in school history to go 10-0. Jacob Heier caught 2 TD passes from Matson while Lance Coon also caught a scoring pass. Corey Dettmann scored on a 50-yard run and senior fullback Tanner McKimmey scored on two short runs for Humboldt, which led 21-0 at halftime.

Will Orness led the Humboldt receivers with 10 catches for 176 yards. Jacob Heier had six catches for 52 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Christian Alcala led the Wildcat defense with four solo tackles and 2.5 assists. McKimmey and Matson each had four solos and 1.5 assists.
