Wildcats are heading to the Dome!

The number two seed and unbeaten Humboldt football team withstood a challenge from the Independence Mustangs and went on to post an impressive 42-21 victory Friday night (Nov. 5) in a Class 3A quarterfinal round game at Mason Maach Field in Humboldt.

Humboldt senior quarterback Caden Matson rushed for two touchdowns and passed for two more to lead Humboldt, which improved to 11-0 overall.

Humboldt took a 21-7 lead before Independence battled back to tie it at halftime, 21-21. The Wildcats then scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to give the school its first trip to the UNI-Dome since Humboldt won the state title in 2006.

Matson passed for 122 yards and rushed for 233 yards.

The 3A semifinals will be played inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls on Saturday, Nov. 13. Humboldt will meet Harlan in the 7 p.m. game. Harlan advanced by shutting out Nevada, 38-0 Friday night in Harlan. The other semifinal game will kickoff at 4 p.m. between Solon and Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley. BH/RV beat Sergeant Bluff-Luton 50-14 while Solon stopped West Delaware, 23-19.
