Humboldt girls fall to Gilbert in basketball opener, 79-55

The Gilbert Tigers sank 10 3-point baskets, including four straight in a crucial second half stretch to pull away to a 79-55 victory over the Humboldt Wildcats in a girls season opener in the Humboldt gym Monday night (Nov. 22).

Morgan Mann scored 20 points to lead Humboldt. Alexis Hansen made eight and Kayla Gieber added seven. The Wildcats also had Reagan Lee with six, Paige Nelson with five, Marissa Kaufman with four and Rylie Satern had three. Joie Smith added two.

Gilbert was led by Ava Hawthorne with 23 points. Raney Kruse added eight and Mia Kautman also had eight for Gilbert. Gilbert also won the junior varsity game, 47-23.

The Wildcats travel to Pocahontas on Tuesday night before entering the Thanksgiving break.
