The Humboldt City Council on Monday held a public hearing on a review of wards/voting precincts for the city in accordance with Iowa Code Chapter 21.
City Clerk Gloria Christensen reported that changes aren’t too significant for wards in the city. Ward 1 will take some of Ward 3’s territory on l2th, 11th, 10th and 9th Street North, and Taft Street, north of 4th Avenue North.
Ward 1 will lose the small sliver of homes on the west side of 8th Street South, east of the river. The new map provides a much cleaner marking for Ward 2, bounded by the Des Moines River on the west. Those are about the only changes.
Regarding total population disbursement, Ward 3 will decline from 1,692 to 1,584. Ward 1 will decrease from 1,757 to 1,607. Ward 2 will remain at 1,601.
The Council then passed the amendment to the city voting ward ordinance and sent the matter on to the county auditor. Read more about city news in this week's Humboldt Independent.
