Wildcat boys foil Webster City upset bid, fall at Clear Lake

Humboldt's varsity boys' basketball team, ranked No. 3 in the latest Associated Press Class 3A high school rankings, suffered their first loss of the season Friday night (Jan. 21) at Clear Lake, falling 55-50. Caden Matson scored 17 points to lead Humboldt, 12-1, 7-1. Carson Toebe poured in 33 for the Lions, 9-3, 5-3.

Humboldt held off an upset bid by the Webster City Lynx Tuesday night (Jan.18) in the Humboldt gym, winning 46-45 in a tightly contested North Central Conference game. Caden Matson sank a 3-pointer from the wing with 17.8 seconds left to lift Humboldt.

Caden Matson scored 16 points, Trevor Jacobson had 10 and Ben Jacobson 9 to lead the Wildcats. Jaime Grossoehme scored 17 to pace Webster City. Jayce Neuroth, Ty McKinney and Jamin Stuhr each had 8.

Humboldt is 12-0 overall, 7-0 in conference play. Webster City is 7-4, overall, 4-3 and third in the NCC standings.

Humboldt travels to Algona on Tuesday, Jan. 25.
