Wildcats edge LeMars in substate thriller, 57-54

The Humboldt boys' basketball team moved within one game of the state tournament by edging the LeMars Bulldogs, 57-54 tonight (Feb. 24) in a thrilling Class 3A substate semifinal round game in the Wildcat gym.

The Wildcats, now 20-3 overall, will meet Spencer in a substate final in the Storm Lake High School gym at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28.

Spencer defeated Storm Lake, 60-44 in a semifinal in Spencer.

Caleb Dreckman scored 28 points to lead all scorers as his LeMars squad bows out at 13-10 overall.

Ben Kuehnast and Jacob Heier both scored 12 points to lead Humboldt's scoring. Josh Thurm made 11 and Caden Matson had 10 for the Wildcats, who overcame a six-point deficit late in the game.
