Will meet Davenport Assumption at 7:15 p.m. on March 8

The Never-Say-Die attitude of the Humboldt boys' basketball team held true to form again Monday night (Feb. 28) as the Wildcats earned a trip into next week's Class 3A state tournament by beating the Spencer Tigers, 63-55 in a substate final game played in the Storm Lake gym.

Balanced scoring again was one of the keys in the Wildcats' victory as Trevor Jacobson scored 16 points to lead Humboldt. Caden Matson and Will Orness each scored 14 points while Ben Kuehnast had 10 for Humboldt, which moved to 21-3 overall.

Spencer, 20-4, was led by senior standout Kory Petzenhauser with 33 points.

The 3A state tournament begins on Tuesday, March 8 inside Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Humboldt, seeded No. 6, will meet No. 3 seed Davenport Assumption at 7:15 p.m.

Dallas Center-Grimes earned the No. 1 seed and they'll face No. 8 seed Carroll at 2 p.m. Winterset (#4) plays Marion (#5) at 3:45 p.m. and Deborah (#2) plays Central DeWitt (#7) at 5:30 p.m.
