Two teens killed in single-vehicle accident Saturday

Two teenagers lost their lives early Saturday morning, March 26, after the vehicle they were in left the roadway southeast of Dakota City. The accident occurred at 6:19 a.m.
According to the report from Iowa State Patrolman Missman, a 2005 Chevrolet pickup driven by Gavin Maines, 17, of Woolstock, was westbound on 230th Street where the road curves north to Nevada Avenue. The report said Maines failed to navigate a right-hand turn and the vehicle went into the west ditch. The vehicle rolled several times. Both Maines, and a passenger, Madison Fraker, 18, of Algona, were ejected from the vehicle and were pronounced dead at the scene. According to the accident report, neither subject was wearing occupant protection.
Assisting the Iowa State Patrol were the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, Humboldt County EMS, the Humboldt County Medical Examiner and Jergens Towing. See more on this accident in the March 31 Humboldt Independent.
