Pride event stresses love, acceptance

The pursuit of love and acceptance was the main theme at the annual Humboldt LGBTQ Pride event held at the fairgrounds last Saturday, June 25.
A good-sized crowd was on hand for the event, which included music, guest speakers and silent auction items to benefit the Gay Straight Alliance Diversity and Inclusion Club and its scholarships at Humboldt High School.
Payton Capesius, now a freshman in college, was awarded the scholarship. Community member Danny Williams was recognized for his contributions to the community.
One of the guest speakers was Allison Cherry, Humboldt High School education specialist for the iJAGS program (Iowa Jobs for America’s Graduates), has taken over as advisor for the school’s diversity club. Read more about this story in this week's Humboldt Independent.
