$10.6 million budget approved for Humboldt County

Humboldt County Veterans Affairs Director Craig Malloy is a member of the Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight Committee. Malloy announced this week that two flights from Fort Dodge have been finalized for this year, May 11, and Sept. 7. Around 55 Humboldt County veterans are expected to make the trip.

The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors approved a budget for 2013-14 where the tax levy is about five cents less than the current levy.
The new levy is $6.06 for those who live in a city, and $10.01 for rural residents.
Auditor Peggy Rice said the budget calls for total revenues of $10,448,589 and total expenses of $10,676,009. If the entire budget is expended, the county will use about $227,000 in cash reserves.
The new budget includes 3.5 percent raises for elected officials as recommended by the Humboldt County Compensation Board.
The board approved the new Humboldt County flag with a change from two weeks ago. The one change was the addition of another star. The 13 stars represent the towns in the county. The board thanked graphic designer Bonita McLarnen for her work on the project.
Craig Malloy of the Veteran’s Affairs office told the board a second Honor Flight has been added for Sept. 7. The first Honor Flight this year is May 11. There will be 15 Humboldt County Veterans (World War II and Korean War) on the May 11 flight from Fort Dodge to Washington, DC. It takes about $600 for each Veteran and Malloy said funds have nearly been raised for the first flight.
