Dreyer earns 4th place medal at state
Humboldt High senior wrestler Reed Dreyer wrapped up his career by placing fourth at 195 pounds in the Class 2A State Wrestling Championships at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines on Saturday (Feb. 22). In his consolation final round match against Christian Brobst of Sioux City Bishop Heelan, Dreyer lost by fall in 1:32. Earlier on Saturday, Dreyer pinned Harlan's Cale Stork in 1:51 to advance into the third/fourth place medal final. Dreyer ends the year with a 43-7 record.
Dreyer guaranteed himself of winning a medal at the state tournament by winning his consolation round wrestle back matches on Friday (Feb. 21) in the state meet. Dreyer pinned Matt McMillan of Independence in 40 seconds early in the day, then disposed of Oelwein's Zach Lamphere by fall in 58 seconds.
Dreyer won his first round wrestle back in the state tournament on Thursday. Dreyer, who suffered an opening round loss earlier in the day, bounced back in strong fashion by pinning Lonnie Harper of I-35 in 50 seconds.
Earlier on opening day, Dreyer suffered a 9-4 loss in the opening round. Dreyer was defeated by No. 2 ranked Carter Isley of Albia.
