Humboldt boys sink Clear Lake, 74-52

Humboldt's boys secured a runner-up finish in the North Central Conference with a 74-52 victory over Clear Lake Thursday night (Feb. 7) in the Humboldt gym. The Wildcats improved to 14-5 overall, 13-5 in the NCC. Michael Orness poured in 28 points, Brady Ross made 12 and Bryan Larson and Jaxon Heinz each had 10 for Humboldt, which took a 35-33 halftime lead and outscored the Lions 39-19 in the second half.

Humboldt's girls fell to Clear Lake, 66-47. Humboldt was led by Erica Lane with 15 points and nine rebounds. Madison Thomas was next with 7 while Kinzie Wright and Kessa Kuyper each had five. Humboldt fell to 8-13 overall, 6-12 in conference play.

IOWA FALLS - Humboldt came up short in a pair of North Central Conference basketball games at Iowa Falls on Tuesday night (Feb. 5). The Wildcat girls were upended by the Cadet girls, 52-39, while the boys lost by a 53-37 final count.

The girls will open Class 4A regional tournament play at home on Feb. 13 against Webster City while the boys will host Algona in a first round Class 3A District game on Feb. 18. The boys wrap up their season with games at Fort Dodge on Feb. 11 and at home with Storm Lake on Feb. 14. Subscribe to the Independent for access to complete print and electronic editions.
