Humboldt girls in 57-48 victory over Bishop Garrigan
Humboldt's varsity girls' basketball team earned their first win of the season at home on Dec. 10 by topping Algona Bishop Garrigan, 57-48 in a conference matchup. Avery Terwilliger scored 16 points to lead Humboldt. Lauren Friesth finished with 14 and Madison Thomas added eight. Humboldt is now 1-3 overall, 1-2 in conference play.
Humboldt's offense could not get untracked as the girls fell at Clear Lake in a North Central Conference game on Dec. 6 by a 60-23 final count.
Despite leading throughout the first half, Humboldt's girls couldn't hold off a Hampton-Dumont rally in the second half on Dec. 3 as the Wildcats fell to the Bulldogs, 50-36 in a North Central Conference basketball game at Hampton. Kessa Kuyper scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds while Lauren Friesth and Maggy Duffield each had six points for the Wildcats.
Humboldt's offense got off to a slow start in the first half and the Wildcats couldn't overcome a 21-7 halftime deficit en route to a 51-37 loss to the Pocahontas Area Maidens Tuesday night (Nov. 26) in a girls non-conference season basketball opener in the Pocahontas gym.
The Wildcats matched the Maidens with a 30-point second half output but couldn't overcome their slow start. Lauren Friesth scored 12 points to pace Humboldt while Madison Thomas added eight and Lindsey Johnson seven. Kessa Kuyper grabbed 10 rebounds.
Humboldt plays at Eagle Grove on Dec. 13. They visit Algona on Dec. 17 and host Webster City on Dec. 20 in their final game before the Christmas break.
