Humboldt girls in 7-2 victory at Algona
The Humboldt High softball team closed out their regular season with a 7-2 victory at Algona on Thursday night (July 3) in Algona. Humboldt scored five runs in the first two innings and totaled 10 hits on the night. Maddie Thomas and Avery Terwilliger each had two hits at bat. Terwilliger pitched an 8-hitter with two strikeouts.
The Wildcats are 20-11 overall, 11-6 in the North Central Conference. Will host Hampton-Dumont on July 8 at 7 p.m. in a 3A regional first round game.
Humboldt got back on the winning track by stopping Clarion-Goldfield, 11-2 Wednesday night (July 2) in Humboldt. Avery Terwilliger scattered six hits with no walks to earn the win pitching. Terwilliger and Kelsey Peters each had three hits for the Wildcats.
Humboldt dropped a pair of varsity games at home on Tuesday, July 1. The Wildcats fell to Pocahontas Area, 9-4, and to league-leading Fort Dodge St. Edmond, 13-4.
A five-run sixth inning keyed Pocahontas as they collected 10 hits off of Wildcat pitcher Avery Terwilliger, who struck out three. HHS had four hits at bat. A 6-run fourth inning was the difference for St. Edmond in the NCC game.
