Humboldt girls bow in regional final, 10-0
Humboldt's bid for a Class 3A state tournament berth was denied Monday night (July 14) by No. 9 ranked Bondurant-Farrar, which shutout the Wildcats, 10-0 in five innings in a regional final in Roland. The Lady Jays, 20-13, scored 7 runs in the third inning and added 2 more in the fourth and one in the fifth to end Humboldt's season. The Lady Jays outhit the Wildcats, 13-3. Humboldt ends its season at 22-12 overall.
Humboldt moved to within one game of the state tournament by turning back North Polk, 8-5 Friday night (July 11) in a Class 3A regional semifinal round game at Iowa Falls. Humboldt scored three runs in the first inning and added four more in the second to take a 7-2 lead and never looked back. Wildcat pitcher Avery Terwilliger scattered eight hits. Humboldt clubbed 10 hits on offense. Terwilliger, Beth Duffield and Maddie Thomas each had two hits.
Humboldt used a 4-run fourth inning to break open a close game and went on upend Hampton-Dumont, 6-1 in a Class 3A Regional Tournament first round game in Humboldt Tuesday night (July 8).
The Wildcats put together an 8-hit attack on offense and engineered a solid defensive effort to back the pitching of Avery Terwilliger, who gave up five hits.
