Humboldt girls end season in loss at Spencer, 60-46
A second half rally by Humboldt wasn't enough Saturday night (Feb. 16) as the Wildcat girls fell to Spencer, 60-46 in a Class 4A Regional Basketball Tournament game at Spencer. Humboldt closes out the year with a 9-14 overall record. Spencer improved to 12-10 with the win. The Tigers will play No. 1 Sioux City Bishop Heelan in a regional final on Feb. 19 in Cherokee.
Lauren Friesth scored 18 points and Kinzie Wright 15 to lead Humboldt's scoring. Erica Lane had five and Madison Thomas and Kessa Kuyper each added four for the Wildcats, who trailed just 22-20 at halftime. The Wildcats trailed 42-31 entering the final period and pulled within four midway through the final quarter before the Tigers pulled away in the final minute.
TOP LYNX IN 4A REGIONAL OPENER
Humboldt opened Class 4A Regional Basketball Tournament play at home Wednesday night (Feb. 13) by turning back Webster City, 42-29. Lauren Friesth scored 11 points and Kinzie Wright made 10 to lead the Wildcats.
The Wildcats, who led 22-15 at halftime, also got five points apiece from Kessa Kuyper and Madison Thomas. April Jones made four and Erica Lane added three. Karlee Peyton chipped in with two while Abbey Gargano and Sarah Peters each had one. Hannah Meyers scored seven to lead the Lynx. Emily Elm had five. Webster City bows out at 2-20 overall.
