Humboldt wrestlers win team title at Spencer Invitational
Humboldt crowned four champions and claimed the team championship of the Spencer Invitational Wrestling Tournament held on Saturday, Dec. 21 in the Spencer High gym.
Earning first-place finishes for Humboldt was senior 285-pounder Dylan Hendricks, junior 182-pounder Adam Mickelson, senior 170-pounder Nikko Wheeler and sophomore Zane Russell at 120 pounds. Wildcat senior Reed Dreyer was runner-up at 220 pounds, where he suffered his first loss of the season in the championship match to a wrestler from Lawton-Bronson. Taking third for the Wildcats was Dakota Applegate at 195, Jake Miller at 138 and Levi Sawyer at 113. Austen Gargano was fourth at 126 pounds and Thaylan Bowman was fifth at 152. Jaden Kampen (132), Mike Madsen (145) and Gus Arnold (160) placed sixth. Michael Brock was seventh at 106.
Humboldt scored 214 points for first-place, followed by Sergeant Bluff-Luton with 200.5, Spencer with 185, Rock Valley/Boyden-Hull at 106.5, Sibley-Ocheyedan with 104, Estherville with 99.5, Sioux Central with 98, Spirit Lake-Park with 94, Central Lyon/George-Little Rock with 82, Lawton-Bronson with 77 and West Lyon with 21.
Humboldt will be off for the Christmas break and return to action on Jan. 9 in double dual at Webster City with the Lynx and Clear Lake.
