Shutout win moves HHS baseball team to 21-6
Humboldt wrapped up its regular season at home on July 16 in impressive fashion by shutting out Storm Lake, 15-0 in non-conference baseball. Humboldt collected eight hits in the game, led by Jerod Hauck with two. Brenden Schnell earned the win on the mound for Humboldt. A 7-run third inning proved to be the key for the Wildcats, who improved to 21-6 on the season. They begin post-season tournament play Friday at Boone in a 5 p.m. game with Iowa Falls-Alden in the first round of 3A District action.
HUMBOLDT 15, STORM LAKE 0
Humboldt wrapped up its North Central Conference schedule by drubbing Hampton-Dumont, 12-1 in five innings Wednesday night (July 10) to finish second in the league standings with a 13-5 record. Humboldt is 20-6 overall. Ben Jacobson pitched a one-hitter and Austin Zylstra made four hits, including a grand slam home run in the fifth inning for the Wildcats. The Wildcats begin Class 3A District Tournament play against Iowa Falls-Alden on July 19 in Boone in a 5 p.m. game. The winner of that contest plays Boone or Webster City on July 22 in Boone.
HUMBOLDT 5, WBM/GCB 1
Humboldt picked up its 19th victory of the season Tuesday night (July 9) in Gilmore City by pulling away from West Bend-Mallard/GC-B, 5-1 in non-conference high school baseball. The Wildcats (19-6) scored one run in the fifth and added four in the sixth. WBM/GCB scored their only run in the bottom of the seventh. Connor Vitzthum went the distance pitching for the Wildcats.
HUMBOLDT 16, OGDEN 4
Ryan Lee and Austin Zylstra each had three hits and Jerod Hauck added a pair to lift the Humboldt High baseball team past No. 7 ranked Ogden (Class 2A), 16-4 Monday night (July 8) in Humboldt. Zylstra blasted a 3-run homer in the sixth for the Wildcats, who finished with nine hits overall. Humboldt is now 18-6 overall. Humboldt ends its regular season at home on July 16 against Storm Lake.
