Terwilliger named 3A 1st team all-state softball
Humboldt High softball player Avery Terwilliger was named first-team all-state in Class 3A by the Iowa Girls Association of Softball Coaches.
The other area player selected was West Bend-Mallard/GCB senior catcher Cassie Gearhart, who received honorable mention honors in Class 1A.
Terwilliger, a freshman this past summer, was the Wildcats’ starting pitcher. Batting lefthanded in the upper order of the lineup, Terwilliger led the entire North Central Conference in hitting with a .604 average and finished as the only player in the NCC not to strike out in league play.
Overall, Terwilliger led the Wildcats with a .536 average. She drove in a team-high 39 runs. Her on-base percentage was .571 and her slugging percentage was .619.
Terwilliger finished with a 10-4 record as a pitcher in the NCC, 21-8 overall in 170 innings with an earned run average of 2.8 and 119 strikeouts, 58 walks and 11 hit batters.
Gearhart, a senior, batted .500 for WBM/GCB with 21 runs batted, one home run and 10 doubles.
