Wildcat wrestlers 2nd in Guthrie Center Invite as Wheeler, Hendricks win titles
Nikko Wheeler won the 170-pound class and Dylan Hendricks took the 285-pound class as the Humboldt wrestling team finished second in the Guthrie Center Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 1. Humboldt finished with 180 team points to finish behind Clarion-Goldfield, which totaled 219 points.
Humboldt also got runner-up finishes from Reed Dreyer at 195 and Adam Mickelson at 182. Austen Gargano (126) and Jake Miller (132) both took fourth while Thaylan Bowman (152), Levi Sawyer (113) and Gus Arnold (160) were fifth. Cordes Olthoff was sixth at 220. Hendricks pinned Mitch Gambrill of C-G in the semifinals in 3:13 and pinned top-seeded Garrett Johnson of Panorama in 2:52 in the finals.
The rest of the team scoirng had Ogden third at 156, followed by Greene County with 143, Manson-NW at 124, Guthrie Center with 104, Tri-Center at 98.5, Oakland Riverside at 95, I-35 with 91, Underwood at 80, Panorama with 79, Gilbert at 70, Prairie Valley with 49, Woodward-Granger with 49, Coon Rapids-Bayard at 44, Griswold with 41, Moravia at 35, Nodaway Valley with 35, SEWG withy 30, West Central Valley at 27 and East Union with 7.
The Wildcats are now off until Saturday, Feb. 8, when they compete in a Class 2A Sectional Tournament in Story City.
