Humboldt's girls finished third while the Wildcat boys placed fifth in their respective North Central Conference track meets held on Monday, May 12.
The girls, competing at Clear Lake, won two events as Sam Larson took the 3,000-meters title in 10:49.66 and the 4x800 relay of Brittney Nilles, April Jones, Beth Duffield and Maddie Kampen ran away from the field with a time of 10:08.78. Humboldt had numerous second and third-place finishes as they scored 105 team points. Algona won the team crown with 149 points and Webster City was second at 111.
Humboldt's boys finished fifth with 68 points in the NCC meet at Hampton. Algona won with 175.5 points, followed by Clear Lake at 87, Clarion-Goldfield at 86.5, Webster City with 69.5. Bishop Garrigan was sixth at 56, followed by Eagle Grove with 50, St. Edmond at 44, Hampton-Dumont with 37.5 and Iowa Falls-Alden last at 28.
Humboldt senior Jacob Miller won the 3,200-meters to pace the Wildcats. His winning time was 10:27.88. Tyler McKibban was second in the discus with a throw of 130-feet one inch and Kenny Kuyper ran third in the 110-meter high hurdles. The distance medley relay of Jordan Olson, Jordan Edwards, Reed Burres and Ivan Rasmussen placed third in 3:56.57.
Both teams will compete in a Class 3A state qualifying meet in Nevada on Thursday, May 15. Action begins at 4 p.m. in the coed meet. The first and second-place finishers in each event automatically advance to the state tournament in Des Moines May 22-24. The remaining eight-best times and distances statewide in each event will fill out the state meet field.
