HUMBOLDT – No. 2 ranked Iowa Falls-Alden suffered its first loss of the season here Friday night at the hands of the Humboldt Wildcats, who held off the Cadets 57-56 in a North Central Conference game before a vocal crowd inside the Humboldt gym.
The Wildcats, 7-2 overall, 6-2 in the NCC, were led in scoring by Michael Orness with 17 points, Bryan Larson with 16 and Ben Jacobson with 10. Jaxon Heinz also had nine while Matt Pogge made three and Brady Ross two. The Cadets (7-1, 6-1), were paced by Casey Schlatter with 29 points. Kort Redmond added nine, Jake Campbell had seven and Brayden McDaniel six.
After trailing for much of the first quarter, Humboldt made a second quarter run and led by 11 points at halftime (39-28), only to see their lead slip in the final quarter. But the Cadets could never regain the lead.
