Iowa farmers work hard year-round to show consumers how they grow a variety of safe, affordable food. But the week of Feb. 17-23, Iowans are encouraged to reach out to farmers and get their questions answered about the many healthy, affordable food options at their local grocery stores.
To commemorate Food Check-Out Week, Humboldt County Farm Bureau will be sponsoring a free $300 shopping spree to be given away at the Fareway grocery store in Humboldt.
Customers will be able to register for the $300 in groceries by shopping at the Humboldt Fareway store, Feb. 4-19. Registration coupons are available at the store and a registration coupon will also be available in the Feb. 13 Humboldt Reminder.
A drawing will take place late on Feb. 19, with the lucky winner having the opportunity to fill their cart with $300 worth of groceries on Friday, Feb. 22, from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
While Food Check-Out Week celebrates the fact that most Americans spend, on average, less than 10 percent of their disposable personal income on food, this year’s initiative also encourages consumers to spend those dollars wisely on healthy food options.
Humboldt County Farm Bureau is pleased to sponsor this annual event, said County Farm Bureau President Doug Adams.
